Katara is a fictional character in the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008, and subsequently in the sequel series, The Legend of Korra. She is also portrayed in the 2010 live-action film adaptation, though the adaptation is critically disputed.

Katara is a Waterbending master and one of the central characters. She hails from the Southern Water Tribe, a community significantly depleted by the Fire Nation's raids. She's the last waterbender in her tribe and becomes Aang's waterbending teacher, guiding him alongside Sokka on his journey to master the four elements.
